Sequences – OCR GCSE (J560): Higher Tier

In this mini-lecture, Professor Keith Ball (University of Warwick) explores sequences, covering Topics 6.60a and 6.06b in the OCR GCSE (9-1) Mathematics (J560) Specification for Higher Tier. In the first mini-lecture, we introduce and motivate sequences (6.06). In the second mini-lecture, we learn how to generate a sequence (Topic 6.06a). In the third and fourth mini-lecture, we explore some special and famous sequences, such as the Fibonacci sequence (Topic 6.06b). In the fifth mini-lecture, we learn about linear and quadratic sequences (Topic 6.06b). In the sixth mini-lecture, we introduce geometric sequences (Topic 6.06b). In the seventh mini-lecture, we learn how to determine the nth term of a geometric sequence using formula (Topic 6.06b). In the eighth mini-lecture, we explore how to use formulae to determine the nth term of a linear sequence (Topic 6.06a). In the ninth mini-lecture, we learn how to determine the formula for the nth term of a quadratic sequence (Topic 6.06a).

Introduction to Sequences

In this mini-lecture, we introduce sequences, focusing in particular on: (i) examples of familiar sequences; (ii) defining a term; and (iii) identifying patterns in sequences.
