Padel: Daughters of the Labyrinth

In this course, Ruth Padel explores her most recent novel, ‘Daughters of the Labyrinth’ (2021). In the first module, we consider the historical and personal context behind the book. In the second module, we look at the p.16-17 of the text. In the third module, p. 130-1. In the fourth module, p. 263-4. In the fifth module, p. 303-4. In the sixth and final module, we link themes across the text.

Context

In this module, we introduce the context behind ‘Daughters of the Labyrinth’, focusing in particular on (i) the writer’s background (ii) setting and themes (iii) Cretan myths and symbolism (iv) historical and contemporary vulnerabilities (v) secrets and identity (vi) art and processing trauma.
