The UK Climate
In this course, Professor Sylvia Knight (Royal Meteorological Society) introduces the topic of Climate in the UK. We begin by (i) looking at its general points, and factors that could affect climate; (ii) the impact of rainfall and the water cycles on climate in the UK, and (iii) learn about pressure and wind on the climate; before (iv) learning about large-scale global weather patterns such as El Niño and La Niña; and (v) learn a bit more about heat waves; before (vi) investigating mid-latitude depressions.
UK Weather and Climate
In this lecture, we introduce the origins of the UK’s climate and weather patterns. We move on to highlight the impact of weather on daily activities, industries and even emotions. We demonstrate the origin of the UK’s temperate oceanic climate, characterised by mild winters, warm summers and consistent rainfall. We then take a look at the influence of prevailing wind directions, geographical features and urban heat islands on the temperature and climate in different regions of the UK.
