Resurrection

In this course, Dr Susannah Ticciati (King’ College London) explores resurrection in Christian thought. In the first module we focus on the finality of the resurrection. In the second module, we examine individuality with special focus on the resurrection of the body. In the third module, we continue to look at individuality in the context of personal identity, before turning our attention to the communality of resurrection in the fourth module. In the fifth and final module we examine resurrection hope, and Christian ideas about the use of the present life in hope for ultimate justice and salvation.

Finality

In this module, we examine the finality of the resurrection, focusing in particular on (i) the question of the newness of resurrection raised in 1 Corinthians 1:15-51-2 (ii) great Christian theologians’ conceptions of human resurrection (iii) the distinction between sin and grace in Protestant conceptions of the resurrection (iv) the distinction between nature and grace in Catholic theology (v) the dual theological emphasis on death as a result of sin death and death as a natural good from various Christian thinkers (vi) resurrection as a consummation of the present life.
