Genre in Literature

In this course, Dr Mark Blacklock (Birkbeck College) explores genre in literature. In the first module, we introduce genre. In the second module, we look at science fiction. In the third module, we consider approaches to classifying genre. In the fourth module we explore the gothic.

Genre

In this module, we introduce genre, focusing in particular on (i) historical perspectives and classical influences (ii) evolution of genre (iii) contemporary understanding of genre (iv) genre organisation (v) influence of ‘grandparents’ of genre.
