Death of Jesus

In this course, Dr James Carleton Paget (University of Cambridge) explores the account of Jesus’ death in the Gospel of John. In the first module, we examine religious and political conflict in Jesus’ ministry. In the second module, we look at the plot to kill Jesus. In the third module we investigate the arrest and trial of Jesus, before turning to the question of who was responsible for Jesus’ death in the fourth module. In the fifth and final module, we consider the theological significance of Jesus’ death.

Religious and Political Conflict in Jesus' Ministry

In this module, we examine religious and political conflict in Jesus’ ministry, focusing particularly on (i) introduction and context to Jesus’ death (ii) dual nature of Jesus’ death (iii) religious and political conflict (iv) ambiguities in John’s account (v) Jesus’ identity and actions.
