De Waal: My Name is Leon

In this course, Kit de Waal explores her book ‘My Name is Leon’ (2016). In the first module, we introduce her writing process behind the book. In the second module we look at a character study of Carol, in the third module Tufty, and in the fourth module Maureen and Sylvia. In the fifth module we discuss the text’s narrative voice and point of view, and in the final module we look at setting.

In this module, Kit de Waal speaks about the writing process behind My Name is Leon, focusing in particular on (i) early works and challenges (ii) the evolution of My Name is Leon (iii) finding success in publishing (iv) creating realistic characters (v) ‘Supporting Cast’ and character development in writing.
