Crucifixion and Resurrection in the Gospel of Luke

In this course, Dr James Carleton Paget (University of Cambridge) explores the account of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection in the Gospel of Luke. In the first module, we examine the significance of biblical references In the second module, we look at symbolism in Luke’s account. In the third module we investigate how the account of the resurrection fulfils scripture, before turning to further themes in Luke’s account in the fourth module. In the fifth and final module, we consider the theological implications of Luke’s account of the crucifixion and resurrection.

In this module, we examine the significance of biblical references in Luke’s account of the crucifixion and resurrection, focusing particularly on (i) Old Testament references (ii) symbolism and interpretation (iii) mockery and allusions to Psalm 22 (iv) Jesus’ final words (v) the reactions of others.
