About the lecture

In this module, we trace the personal and professional life of Mary Ann Evans from her earliest translations from German ('The Life of Jesus' by David Strauss and 'The Essence of Christianity' by Ludwig Feuerbach) to the completion of her second novel, The Mill on the Floss.

About the lecturer

After studying Modern Languages (French and German) at Cambridge and Comparative Literature at Sussex, he taught for two years at the University of Bonn, Germany, before joining the Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies at Warwick, where he is now an Emeritus Reader.
