About the lecture

In this module, we introduce the meaning of and reasons for a theory of contract law, focusing in particular on (i) the meaning of a theory (ii) reasons to have a theory of contract (iii) two main features of a good theory of contract as espoused by Ronald Dworkin.

About the lecturer

Dr Nick Sage is an Associate Professor of Law at LSE. His research interests are in the philosophy of private law, especially contract, property, and tort. He worked as a judge’s clerk at the Supreme Court of New Zealand, and was a postdoctoral fellow at Columbia Law School before teaching at LSE. His recent publications include Contractual Liability and the Theory of Contract Law (2019) and Liberalism and the Common Callings (2022)
