About the lecture
In this lecture, we think about the client- or student-centred approach to therapy or learning, focusing in particular on: (i) the psychoanalytic approach as the only major option prior to the humanistic approach, wherein the client simply responds to the therapist’s guidance; (ii) Maslow’s theory that neuroses arise from an incongruence between the real self and the ideal self; (iii) the challenges of implementing a student-centred approach in the classroom and a client-centred on in a therapy session; (iv) some key environmental aspects to strive for in a classroom or therapy environment.
