About the lecture

In this lecture, we think about the debate between two camps – the hyperglobalists and the sceptics – regarding the existence of globalisation, often called the great globalisation debate, focusing in particular on: (i) the hyperglobalist perspective, which sees globalisation as a hugely important process, comparable in significance to transformative historical moments like the invention of writing; (ii) the sceptical view that the extent of globalisation in recent decades has been exaggerated, and that the world continues to be organised along older principles based on the nation state; (iii) how this debate plays out in the spheres of political and economic globalisation.
