About the lecture

In this lecture, we consider memory from a developmental psychology perspective, focusing in particular on: (i) Sebastián and Hernández-Gil’s 2012 study investigating the relationship between short term memory digit span and age; (ii) the length of number words being a key factor in national differences in digit span performance between Chinese, English, and Welsh children; (iii) the importance of understanding where weaknesses in memory arise as children develop, in order to build interventions which can tackle them; (iv) how the development of memory models from the abstract modal model to the more concrete working memory model has informed memory improvement techniques and research.

About the lecturer

Dr Ashok Jansari is a senior lecturer in the Department of Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London. Dr Jansari’s research interests include memory disorders, prosopagnosia, executive functions, and synaesthesia. Dr Jansari is most famous for his research into prosopagnosia, having made numerous TV appearances, including on BBC1’s The One Show, as well as hosting his own ‘Neuro Talk’ YouTube channel:
