About the lecture

In the first mini-lecture, Dr Shane Lo Fan Hin introduces organic chemistry by first discussing some of the functional groups you may encounter, including some of the simplest molecules that include these functional groups. We cover alkanes, alkenes, arenes, haloalkanes, alcohols, phenols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, esters, acyl chlorides, amides, nitriles and amino acids.

About the lecturer

Dr. Lo Fan Hin has been teaching organic chemistry at the University of Sussex for the past 10 years. Since then, he has won the Excellence in Teaching Award - both university and student-led - four times since working there. In 2021, he was promoted to senior lecturer, and continues to teach across many different fields and modules in organic chemistry.
