About the lecture
In this module, we think about the importance of the Korean War (1950-53) in the development of the Cold War, focusing in particular on: (i) why the Korean War might not have received the attention it deserves given its importance in the Cold War; (ii) the events leading up to the Korean War and the course of the war itself; (iii) the impact of the Korean War on US foreign policy; and (iv) the rise of China as a major communist power.
About the lecturer
Dr Tom Tunstall Allcock is a lecturer in American history at the University of Manchester. His research focuses on U.S. foreign policy during the Cold War, with particular interests in U.S.-Latin American relations, presidential history and diplomacy, and the cultural history of the Cold War.
