BIOGRAPHY

Dr Claire Knight teaches in the department of Russian Studies at the University of Bristol. Her research focuses on the years of the Great Patriotic War up to the death of Stalin in 1953, with a particular interest in the history of visual culture, Soviet cinema, the Stalin Cult and British-Soviet wartime relations. Her most recent publication Stalin’s Final Films: Cinema, Socialist Realism, and Postwar Soviet Reality 1945-53 (2024) examines how Soviet postwar films balanced official ideology and audience engagement, in a period of high censorship.
