About the lecture

In this module, we briefly introduce the problem of personal identity, focusing in particular on (i) John Locke’s introduction of personal identity to philosophical discourse in his ‘Essay Concerning Human Understanding’ (ii) the personal identity debate (iii) survival and animalism.

About the lecturer

Professor Harold Noonan is a lecturer in mind and cognition at the University of Nottingham. His research interests include the philosophy of mind and the philosophy of language, identity and personal identity, logic, and the philosophies of Frege, Russell and Hume. His recent publications include The Challenge to Nihilism Analytic Philosophy (2019) Personal Identity: The Simple and Complex Views Revisited (2019), and Personal Identity (2019).
