About the lecture

In this module we look at Plato and Aristotle’s initial contributions to the mind-body problem, long before the Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment. In particular, we focus on (i) the distinction between dualist and monist solutions to the problem (ii) Plato’s commentary on the immortality of the soul in the Phaedo (iii) Aristotle’s hylomorphism, and the implications of his view that the soul is the form of the body.
